About

Hi, I’m Emma Elaine Houston, I have been dancing since I was 3 years old, my mother who danced at the Cleveland Ballet had me dancing as soon as possible. I trained with studios like Artistry in Motion and multiple others, starting competition dance at the age of 7. Spending my time learning all styles of dance from ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, hip hop, and tap. I spent summers at the workshop camps with the Joffery School of Dance in New York City. I also competed till I graduated high school in 2021, then took a short break after losing my mother.
After my short time off she took a dance class at Northern Michigan University, just as a small step back into that world. I met Karina Johnson the NMU dance department head, and took a couple of her classes, after about a year I was asked to join the Co/Lab preprofessional dance company and my spark for dance had been relit. I continued dancing for NMU’s Co/Lab Company and even was in a couple of their musical performances.

When it comes to my choreographing experience it has been a passion of mine that thanks to the Northern Michigan University Dance Department and Karina Johnson I have been blessed to be able to explore. I first choreographed two pieces for the Co/Lab 2024 performance, Angles and Queens and Ode to a Love Lost. Both meant a lot to me however Ode to a Love Lost will always hold a special place in my heart since it is the story of how my father has to continue still loving my mother after passing. I then started teaching and choreographing for local studios in the Marquette area as well as for small showcases at NMU. I hope to continue my choreography journey as I continue my dance journey.
